The Ambassador of Sweden H.E Mr Håkan Jevrell and Mrs Catharina Jevrell together with the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society cordially invite you to a presentation by Rose Kerr on Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl and her Chinese Treasures. This lecture describes a re-discovered treasure trove of Chinese ceramics in Sweden. Unknown to almost everyone in the Asian ceramics field, the Hallwyl Museum is housed in a historical building in central Stockholm. Wilhelmina von Hallwyl (1844-1930) was an avid collector of many subjects, but her greatest interest was China.
The museum is distinguished by its fine interiors and exquisite décor, and is filled with precious pictures, furnishings and objets d´art, encompassing some 50,000 objects. Among them are 610 inventoried Asian ceramics (some being services and sets, in all over 1000 individual pieces) including monochrome wares; figurines of people, deities, animals & mythical beasts; blue-and-white wares for home and export markets; polychrome wares for home and export markets; yixing wares and more.
About Rose Kerr
Rose Kerr is Honorary Associate of the Needham Research Institute in Cambridge, after retiring as Keeper of the Far Eastern Department at the Victoria & Albert Museum. She also acts as Honorary Fellow at the University of Glasgow, Trustee of the Great Britain-China Education Trust, Trustee of the Sir Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art and Museum Expert Advisor for Hong Kong.
