The Society organized a trip for January 2007 to Cambodia and Vietnam that has been canceled since there is insufficient sign-up. A minimum of 15 participants are needed; no members signed up.
The following is a recap:
1. The Society had organized a successful trip to Sri Lanka and believe members would be interested in another study trip in the region.
2. The Society had provided funds for an archeological dig in Phnom Kulen, Cambodia (near Siam Reip) The trip was timed to take advantage of this site under development by Dr. John Miksic along with survey study of Vietnam that included stops in Hanoi, HCM City, and Central Vietnam.
3. A sub-committee of the Board met 6 times, obtained quotes from 3 travel agents, reviewed the itineraries of 2 recent study tours to Vietnam, and reviewed suggestions from members and others who have visited/studied Cambodia and Vietnam.
4. The Society sponsored 2 well-received event lectures to coincided with the trip. The lecture events featured Dr. John Miksic (Cambodia) and Dr. Bruce Lockhart (Vietnam) both of NUS.
5. The Society received 3 feedback comments about the trip:
a. One member wanted to join the Hanoi portion only
b. One member wanted to join the Cambodia portion only
c. One member suggested the trip segment to Vietnam of 7 days was too short (perhaps 10 days minimum)
