Yuan Blue-and-White from the Red Sea
This talk will introduce an important group of fragments of early blue-and-white porcelain that have recently been recovered from the Red Sea. It will put the finds into perspective, regarding similar material from finds throughout the world and will explore how far this material adds to our knowledge of Yuan blue-and-white and its dating.

Regina Krahl is an independent researcher of Chinese art based in London. She has curated and co-curated many international exhibitions, for example, in New York (Guggenheim Museum, Asia Society, China Institute in America); in Washington, D.C. (Freer and Sackler Galleries); in Taipei (National Museum of History); in London (Royal Academy of Arts, and British Museum) and elsewhere. For several years she worked at the British Museum as Acting Curator of Chinese Ceramics, and is at present engaged as Curatorial Advisor in connection with the transfer of the Percival David Foundation. She is a Research Consultant for the Chinese Departments of Sotheby’s worldwide. She has published and lectured on many aspects of Chinese art, in particular on ceramics, lacquer and textiles, as well as on Vietnamese and Korean ceramics. Her publications include the three-volume catalogue raisonné of Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Collection, Istanbul, and the three-volume Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection.
